Although long established in North Milton Keynes as 'Mr Folk
Music', Matt is, of course, a Scot, hailing from his beloved East Neuk of Fife,
with all the fishing towns.
He started singing whilst at university in St Andrews and started songwriting
for a bet with the late Ewan MacColl, who was singing some of Matt's songs in
the later years of his life. His songs tend to be about 'home', the fishing
trade and the lives of the fishermen, although he has written some on more general
themes - anti-war, politics, parting and even the odd love song.
Matt's songs have passed into the repertoire of many a club, concert and festival
singer and he's even heard them introduced as 'traditional' on broadcast radio. Many
have been recorded by others, but Matt has released four recordings of his own material.
While generally available for clubs and concerts, his main interest is his regular
guesting at festivals across the country.
